How to merge PDF files online for free
The PDF merger combines any number of PDFs into a single document, in the order you choose, without uploading them to a server. Drop your files into the dropzone above (or click to browse and select several at once). A list of thumbnails appears; drag the chips up or down to reorder them so the final file follows the sequence you want. When the order is right, click Merge into one PDF. The result downloads as merged.pdf the moment it is ready.
What you can use the merger for
Combining a stack of scanned receipts into one monthly expense report. Joining several chapters of an e-book into a single PDF. Putting together an application packet — resume, cover letter, portfolio — as one tidy attachment. Stitching multiple invoices into a single statement to send a client. Merging chapters of a long report that were drafted separately. In every case the underlying work is the same: take pages from N source PDFs and arrange them in a chosen order inside a fresh output file.
Why merge in the browser instead of an upload-based tool?
Most online PDF mergers work by uploading each file to a remote server, processing it there, and then sending you back the result. That is fine for a non-sensitive document, but the wrong choice for anything private — contracts, medical records, tax returns, financial statements, HR paperwork, or anything covered by an NDA. RasonaX PDF Toolkit runs entirely in your browser tab. The files are read into your device's memory, processed locally by the pdf-lib library, and the merged result is saved straight to your downloads. Nothing is transmitted to any server. You can confirm this by opening the network tab in your browser's developer tools while merging — you will see zero outbound traffic for the file content.
How does the merger preserve the original pages?
The merger copies each page byte-for-byte from the source PDFs into the output. There is no re-encoding, no image recompression, no font substitution, and no flattening of form fields. Text in the merged file remains selectable and searchable exactly as it was in the source. If you merged a stack of high-quality scans, they stay high quality. If the source PDFs contain interactive form fields, signatures, or annotations, those are preserved as well. The only thing that changes is the wrapping — the pages now live inside one file instead of several.
Tips for a clean merge
If the source PDFs were created at different page sizes (one US Letter, one A4, one a wide custom size), the merger keeps each page at its original size. That means the resulting document may have a mix of page dimensions, which is usually fine but can look uneven when printed. If you want a uniform output, run the result through the compressor or convert it to images and back via the image to PDF tool with a single page size selected. For typical contracts, reports, and receipts this is rarely a problem. If a source PDF is password-protected and you have the password, unlock it first in another tool before merging — RasonaX PDF Toolkit skips encrypted files rather than guessing the password.
Is there a limit on file count or total size?
No fixed limit. The merger will combine dozens of files in one run, constrained only by your device's memory and how long you are willing to wait. Typical uses — merging 3 to 20 documents — finish in a few seconds. Very large source files (hundreds of megabytes each) may run slowly if the browser runs out of memory, but most everyday PDFs are well within the comfortable range.
Pair the merger with the rest of RasonaX PDF Toolkit
After merging you may want to compress the result so it fits an email attachment limit, split the merged file back into sections, rotate any pages that were scanned sideways, pull out embedded images, or convert the text into an editable Word document. All eight RasonaX PDF Toolkit tools share the same in-browser pipeline, so you can move between them without re-uploading anything. For marking up a draft, edit a PDF in place before sending it on.
